Hello. I should take care of a few Re-Introductions.
I'm Fishmouse, and this is my crafts/whatever has grabbed my attention blog. If you go back to the entries before this, you'll find some rather boring entries for a course I did for work, which granted me a certificate saying yes, indeed, I do know things about web 2.0 technologies. I decided that it's time to claim it back & use this space for my own! SO expect to see some gradual changes around the place.
Things you're likely to see: knitting, music, some drawings/writing, crafty projects, excited pratter about baking, costumes, geeky persuits and life. I will be likely linking with the fabulous Doctor J.K. Rockin , Captain of the Pepsquad, bestfriend and co-conspirator. We're both available on twitter at Pepsquad.

Greetings all,
Oh dear, it's been quite a while since I last swam around in this tank. As you can see, I've brushed off the cobwebs and given this place a bit of a spring clean in preperation for Learning 2.1, hosted once again by the State Library of NSW.

Unfortunatly, the provided link, will not load properly on my web browser so I actually can't comment on this atm.
Swimming around
I took a look at the provided links for some pretty fancy and interesting looking skins. Unfortunatly, this particular type of download is curretnly blocked at work so I was unable to grab one. A shame but I quite like the current layout but you should expect further changes in the future.
I'm hoping to learn about some neat new things through this training course before I inevitably convert this over to my super-duper- craft and comics blog.

So, is it time to sing yet?

Last one, last one. The ol'Flippers are about to fall off but this little Fishmouse isn't giving up any time soon. Speaking of which, I present (and promise not to post about on my own sites) ...
Running the wheel - social networking
Ah, a topic I know allready - the social network, even if i'm old school and prefer Livejournal over Myspace and Facebook. I do have a Myspace and will proberbly get a Facebook one day. The world usage map was interesting, not suprising but I wonder if it's still true?
Swimming around - social networking in the library
Interesting concept. I can see potential for use with teenagers. I'd proberbly want to go through myspace as I am familiar with it and know that they use it. It can be used to showcase what's new, events and hopefully create dialogue. The biggest downside - it would need to be monitered often. I suppose that would be the draw back with using any of the social networking sites in any library area - having the staff available to constantly moniter and update the site.
In my workplace I unfortunatly don't personally have the time and are unsure if I would be allowed to anyway :( Would be nice to implement, even if its Facebook to access the large numbers of young parents we have currently comming through the doors, assuming they are Facebook users. It would also be hard to guage what site (or sites) to go with, depending on your area, patron age and preferneces in this are.
For youth, reading groups, and parents/children groups it could be a very usefull tool. It would be very easy just to put up a new post for marketting of a new event or program. Regular programs and events could have perment banners or messages posted on site.
Second life - Libraries! I've never dipped my toes into that particular pond but must admit that I am thoroughly intrigued.
This is the last time you'll be seeing me post for the 2.0 course . I'ts been lots of fun and hopefully for my audience, you've enjoyed yourself also. Thankyou to everyone who's comented and keep learning and having fun while doing so.

It's a Monster Mash...
Greetings all,Second week of the school holidays and things have quieted down - fractionally. The sky's have been gray and I've had a visit from my Parents and youngest sister, who I am delightfully educating by taking her to comic book and record stores. An interesting weekend for in the rain at any rate. Currently listening to funk (my genre work choice for the past week at any rate) while wanting to get my teeth into the Misfits cover of Monster Mash. Seems appropriate.

Ohh - the starry sky. Excellent example, it's a shame i'm not an astronomy geek. Took a long time to load on my browser and then didn't want to move the night sky at all - oh well. I am allready a fan of Google maps. I've found them very usefull in the past for finding places and are always amused by the zoom function.

Oh goody - what fun. http://bighugelabs.com/flickr/ is easy to navigate, use and has potential.Unfortunately, I can't see many applications which will be used besides as a local history tool but I'm more than willing to try to adapt my mind for Children's and Young Adult programs. The mash up in the top right hand corner is not only one of my favourite YouTube clips but also my new desktop. I present, The Breakfast Monkey in the style of Warhol. I've made a second picture which is Super Grover : the puzzle. It's a shame that I didn't know about this program then because this would have been a great promotional poster.
Well, I'm off to find another mash up - shall be back to tell you about it. After a mug of hot chocolate that is.

From the screen to your earphones - not another New Found Glory
Greetings all,
Another day, another chapter of this done! Busy, cold and rainy. You'd think a Fishmouse would be ok with the wet but this one has become accoustemed to the warmer days we've been having. Oh well.
Running the wheel - Podcasts
I went to the BBC and listened to Neil Gaiman talks about the Ramayana (MP3, 45min, 18.3MB) Listen now. What do you know, it worked! It's always interesting listening to a favourite author talk and I wasn't dissapointed. On the ABC, I listened to an early JJJ Unearthed podcast, taking care to pick one with bands I hadn't heard of.
I can see potential, especially if your library has a well established and used website. You could have podcasts for featured books, book clubs, children and youth programs and local community events just to name a few. It would depend on how much room you have with your server and IT restrictions but yeah, this is a concept wich sprinkled lightly could indeed spice up an otherwise average library site. As a tool for education and training... once again, could be very useful so long as it's used right.

I'm off to have a bit of a nose around and listen to something interesting - I'll keep you posted as to what later. Besides that, I'm looking forward to getting home and curling up and finishing the scarf that I'm knitting.

Q & A for the book set
Greetings all,
Long time no see. It's been terribly busy here, what with preperations for Youth Week and the school holidays. With any luck, It will get quiet in a few weeks. Untill then, I'll keep grabbing snatches of music while I work.
Running the wheel - Answer boards
I had a bit of a look around http://answerboards.wetpaint.com/. Interesting, the answers which are highly rated by the community. However, I do not see a lot of use in 'Slamming' in my current position of Children and Young Adult technician as this seems to be a reference tool and that's an area I rarely dip my toes into.
